Five Guys Named Moe at the Westchester Broadway Theatre

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to see a show, Five Guys Named Moe, on it’s opening night at the Westchester Broadway Theatre (WBT) in Elmsford, NY. I was sure in for a treat and boy, I was not disappointed! If you have never been to the WBT, I highly recommend it for a great date night or an outing with friends. It is a theatre where you can have your meal right before the show! What an absolutely brilliant idea!

Dinner started off with a salad, a piece of cornbread, and a roll with butter. Our order began with a drink from the wine/cocktail menu. For the second course, I had the filet of sole in a light lemon sauce, which came with mashed potatoes and an enticing mixed vegetable medley. My date, better known as my husband, had the prime rib, which came with a baked potato, mixed vegetables, and was topped off with some fried onions. He said the steak had great flavor. There were at least three other options that you could choose from for your main entree. Dinner ended with a peach tarte drizzled with a raspberry sauce, topped with whipped cream and a cookie, along with coffee. It was a satisfying meal, and we enjoyed it.

Next came the highlight of the evening, the show, which was SO FUN! Five Guys Named Moe is described in the playbill as “an energetic, creative tribute to the music of rhythm and blues created by Clarke Peters, which highlights Louis Jordan’s music.” It is a show filled with emotion, making you feel all those good feelings inside.

Peters was inspired by alto saxophonist Louis Jordan. In the playbill, this is how he describes Louis. “Louis said that he never wanted to sing songs that made people feel sad, he always wanted them to feel good and have a great time.  So, if I remained true to that, I thought we’d be alright.”

Let’s just say he more than fulfilled his task at hand. The show is interactive and even includes a short Calypso sing-along. The characters, Eat Moe, No Moe, No Max, Four-Eyed Moe, Big Moe, and Little Moe, are extremely lively and engaged with the audience. They really make you want to get up to sing and dance along. They also have tremendous energy and cohesiveness together. I literally had a smile on my face during the entire show.

The show begins with a 6-piece jazz ensemble, which is set up against the backdrop and begins with No Max, who is upset and depressed about his lonely relationship status. That’s when Five Guys Named Moe appear and come to his rescue. There are two acts, with a 30-minute intermission in between, where you can have a little extra dessert if you so choose. The acts go by pretty quickly despite there being at least 11 songs per act. The show was so incredibly entertaining, and I would highly recommend it for a fun night out.

Five Guys Names Moe is now playing through March 1, 2020 at the Westchester Broadway Theatre.

Bena
Bena is a a wife and mom to a little girl born in July 2017 and another little girl born in April 2021. Her and her husband, both born and raised in Long Island, randomly ended up living in New Rochelle, Westchester when they fell in love with what Westchester had to offer: beautiful parks, hiking trails, restaurants, cute towns, all while still being close to NYC. Since then they have moved around and ended up settling down in Edgemont/Scarsdale. Mostly, Bena is just trying to figure out how to do this mom thing, while also working a full-time job. After a few years of the juggling act, she feels a little more confident, but everyday there are new challenges, especially when #2 arrived. When she is not momming, she is usually lawyering, working out, cooking, running errands, having coffee, chocolate or wine, or somewhere out exploring nature and the world.
