LEGOLAND for Littles

LEGOLAND

I can’t remember a life without LEGOS, whether it be our LEGOS Star Wars Alliance ship collection, or our daughter’s 3 foot Saturn V replica. We are a family of LEGO lovers and there’s no better way to enjoy LEGOS (in all it’s glory), than at our local Legoland Discovery Center Westchester in Yonkers, Ridge Hill. In this sponsored post, I’ll give you some pointers on how little kids can enjoy LEGOLAND.

LEGOLAND

My toddlers are one and three, and the eldest is a pro at LEGO building. She actively and albeit, very patiently, participates in building extensive kits along with us. The youngest, however is an elegant brick breaker, the destroyer of worlds, the toppler of Duplo towers, and the crusher of imaginary cities. What better way to enjoy a break from the heat than at LEGOLAND? It can seem a bit intimidating, especially for your little ones. Here are some pro tips on having a blast with your little ones.

1. Little Playtimes

Take advantage of the special playtimes for toddlers. Every Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., there are special activities for kids under five! Admission is only $24 for 1 adult + 1 child (kids 2 and under are free). Activities include: Farmer Workshop, Animal Bingo, and Storytimes. Check out the Legoland website for schedules.

2. Rides for Littles

Miniland – a cool exhibit with a replica of New York City, each station has a bit of an interactive piece that allows kids to push buttons a la Stew Leonard’s style.

Kingdom Quest
– requires kids to be able to walk independently, my one year old had to sit this one out while dad took the three year old for a fun ride. We ended up swapping out, so mom (me) could join in on the fun. It’s a cute little adventure ride (saving a princess), with laser guns to shoot skeleton and baddies.

LEGO Ninjago City Adventure – a ginormous indoor play structure that takes up a huge chunk of LEGOLAND. Great for the adventurous kid, I recommend going early (off times) for littles since this is pretty much big kid territory. There is a little side area where littles can enjoy some fun in the Dojo Temple.

Lego City Builder – definitely for the three and older crowd, it’s very cool for the parents as well. It’s a space that took over the old LEGO Star Wars Exhibit. You basically have cities half made and the rest is up to your kids to build on or destroy.

Earthquake Tables – if your kids can work Duplo, this station is pretty cool. Kids can stack up their Duplo bricks, crank the knob and watch their towers topple over. My one year old squealed with delight over this as one could imagine.

Duplo Village – what can be better than life sized bricks? Last time we were here, I built a mini couch for the girls to share. The slide was still a bit intimidating for my eldest, (she has a thing about enclosed slides), so she stuck to stacking the large bricks.

LEGO Friends – in the world of pink and purple, we’re not fans of items marketed specifically for girls that emphasize domestic duties. After all, we are raising #rebelgirls, plus dad does a lot of things around the house. They do have a cute little karaoke section that I enjoyed a bit more than my kids.

3. Pack your Lunch

There is a Starbucks coffee inside LEGOLAND, however there are limited options for a healthier lunch/snack. They do have great seating if you decide to pack your lunches. I came unprepared that day and I’m a gluten-free mama, so we opted to leave LEGOLAND for lunch. Your tickets are all day, so you are free to leave for lunch and come back!

4. Purchase your Tickets Online

Plan ahead and you can save a few bucks by purchasing your tickets online. Check out the pricing online. You’ll save about $6 per ticket.

LEGOLAND in Yonkers at Ridgehill was a blast for us. Yes, folks it’s possible to venture out alone with two toddlers. The key is to either baby-wear the younger one, or bring a compact stroller. You might miss a few rides, but rides like Merlin’s Apprentice Ride (requires kids to be at least 4 feet tall). There’s plenty to do and enjoy at LEGOLAND for littles, hope you have fun!
