We all love our cozy little corners of Westchester. There are many things to do and see, places to eat, and parks to visit. Who doesn’t love exploring the county and “finding” the kid-friendly gems! We are spotlighting some of those awesome places so that other moms can take advantage and get a glimpse into the awesomeness that is Westchester! Read all posts in our Spotlight on Westchester Series.

Tarrytown & Sleepy HollowTarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are two areas in Westchester County that deserve the spotlight! They both have great historical sites that are simple enough to stumble upon but noteworthy enough to make a day trip out of. Both are also great spots to get some pretty amazing food as well! If you were wondering if the headless horseman is still making his rounds, the locals would tell you that the legend still lives!

What To Do & Where To Go

Lyndhurst Mansion: You can take a mansion tour that covers two floors and gives visitors a rare glimpse of the lavish decorative arts and furniture left at Lyndhurst by previous owners. There are concerts and special art exhibits throughout the year as well.

Tarrytown Music Hall: The Music Hall was one of the first theaters to show silent films in 1901 and continued to be a multi-use facility (balls, basketball games, concerts, films, flower shows, horse shows, rollerskating tournaments) while also being the venue for several national causes including women’s suffrage in 1915. Today you can catch movie screenings, comedy shows, concerts, and so much more!

Horan’s Landing: A Hudson riverfront park with a grassy area and small beach. While swimming is not permitted, kayaking, paddle boating, and concerts are very popular at this location.

Scenic Hudson River Walk Park: Scenic Hudson partnered with the village, county, and developer Natural RE/sources to move an 80-year-old asphalt plant and turn this prime waterfront site into a public park offering magnificent views which stretch all the way to the Manhattan skyline. Some new features include a riverside esplanade, grass terraces and lawns, and an “eco-corridor” filled with native plants.

Pierson Park: This is my favorite park of all time! This park, conveniently located along the scenic Hudson Riverwalk, has cute places to eat at picnic-like tables with Hudson river views and a super fun splash pad steps away from a small playground.

Rivermarket Bar & Kitchen: A Hudson Valley-inspired farm-to-table restaurant with biodynamic wine and gourmet fresh food market. I ate here for the first time after my first contributor team photoshoot with Westchester County Mom, and I have been a repeat customer ever since! Dinner from River Market.

The Cube Inn: Relatively new on the scene, but a welcome addition to the neighborhood. This place offers “specialty flavors,” including a combination of Taino (Native American), African, Creole, Spanish and Caribbean food. You can enjoy their self-proclaimed killer Cuban Cuisine and friendly service in a nice atmosphere.

Bridgeview Tavern: Well known for offering a rotating selection of the finest American craft beers available on draught and in cans. I heard from a reliable source and Sleepy Hollow local @sleepyhollowspellbound that the BVT Nachos are out of this world!

Goosefeather: Goosefeather is located in The King Mansion at the Tarrytown House Estate, which sits high on the hill above Sunnyside, the former home of famed writer Washington Irving (most recognized for his story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow). The venue offers four separate dining rooms, a 9-seat bar, and indoor and outdoor lounge areas.

Where To Shop

Bellas Boutique: You can find personal items, such as jewelry and accessories, in addition to home gifts and children’s items. Bella’s is also noted for memorabilia and art representing historic Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, home of Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

Pretty Funny Vintage: Pretty Funny Vintage is located in a beautiful 1890s Victorian home. The shop features hand-picked vintage finds in furniture, lighting, textiles, antique jewelry, clothing, and so much more! You can also find Sleepy Hollow Souvenirs inside!
