2019 was a big year for Westchester County Moms Blog. Our contributors live, work, and parent in Westchester, and are passionate about sharing real stories and honest experiences of parenthood. WCMB loves nothing more than to uplift Westchester County and the moms who live here.
We know motherhood can be difficult when you are a new mom, new in town, or just looking for more ways to get connected. In our area, it can be easy to get lost in the crowd. This is our way to make the world feel a little smaller, and parenting easier, more fun, and less lonely. We hope you get plugged in to Westchester County Moms Blog, chime into the conversation, and make yourself comfortable in our community, online and off.
Here is a list of our top 10 most viewed posts of 2019! Make sure to read the ones you may have missed, reread the posts that you were able to connect with, and share the ones you love!
“I had a tired anger. I was angry that I was always cleaning. I was angry that the mail was piling up. I was angry that the pets were shedding, the kids were calling, and I had to do bedtime alone. I was angry that I couldn’t simultaneously keep the house clean; shuttle the little people to their myriad of preschools, swim lessons, soccer practices, and play dates; and keep them all from being sick, tired, unhappy, or hurt. I was angry I no longer worked. I was angry because I was failing at the one job I had left.”
Maybe I can’t get to that fifth load of laundry or the sink that’s full for the millionth time that day. Maybe we ate McDonald’s for dinner last night and we’re having pizza tonight. Maybe I left work at school over the weekend and it didn’t get graded. Maybe the family room is a mess and we’re having guests. Maybe we only got two baths in this week. None of that matters.
“Again, as we come from the apartment building environment, the items that a townhouse community offers are right up our alley. We still feel like grown ups – but not “too grown up!” – so if you’re considering home-ownership, but aren’t up for all that entails, give townhouse living some thought.”
“It’s hard to believe that this is coming so soon! Sure it’s over a year away, but when I look at how fast the past 49 years seems to have went, the big 50 will be here like “poof!” It’s terrifying, surreal, exhilarating, satisfying, and a whole bunch of other adjectives.”
“But when a friend of mine stated that she only meal prepped once a week because of her crock pot, you better believe I was interested in what she had to say! “So you’re telling me that you set your crock pot and walk away only to find a delicious and home cooked meal 5-6 hours later?” I’m here for it… and all I needed to do was follow three simple steps…”
“Pride is a somewhat loaded celebration for me. First of all, I’m married to a man and enjoy a lot of privilege that goes along with heterosexual cisgender marriage. What makes things more complicated, however, is that I am not in fact a straight woman.”
“Since I started the Chore Bucket, my kids understand my frustration a bit more because they now see how often things have to be cleaned. There is some satisfaction when you hear your son or daughter say, “But I just cleaned that yesterday!” And while there is still a ton of work to do around the house, I must say that having the help makes a huge difference. Some of my sanity is regained!”
He wasn’t the package I thought I was ordering. In fact, I was very wary of him at first. But, he turned out to be just what I needed: my “want ad” and more, full of things I didn’t even know were important until he showed them to me.
“Toddlers are completely uninhibited when it comes to art. They have yet to reach the self conscious level of ‘my tree doesn’t look like a tree’ and therefore it is an amazing time for them to explore creatively. Not only is art an engaging activity for toddlers, but art fosters fine motor skills which will prepare their hand muscles for writing.”
“I’m going to admit something here. Most of my life I’ve been a bit cynical when it comes to holidays. I don’t dress up for Halloween, I don’t turn on the Christmas carols on November 1, we’re not baking cookies or going caroling, and I’m really a bit of a Grinch. I tell everyone that my favorite day of the year is December 26, and I’m serious about it even though I might laugh when I say it.”
