Lindsey

Hello mommas! Let me start off with a little introduction. My name is Lindsey, wife to Joe, mommy to Cole (6), Connor (4), Cade (3), and fur baby Charlee, our itty bitty Yorkie (and my only girl!). My life thus far as a mother and wife has been nothing short of amazing. It’s a life that is incredibly challenging, it’s chaotic, stressful, a never-ending roller coaster of emotion, and far from perfect. But even so, I consider myself truly blessed to be able to experience it all.

I was born and raised in a small town in Northern Westchester County. I loved growing up there, so much so, that my husband and I are raising our family in that very same small town. (Six blocks away from my parents and childhood home, eight blocks from my sister, one block away from my in-laws/husband’s childhood home, and two blocks away from my sister in-law and her family). My husband and I are the definition of “townies” and we couldn’t be happier about it!

I always knew I was meant to be a mother, and so did everyone around me. Like many young girls of my generation, I started my journey as a “working women” (at the tender age of 13) babysitting children. Unlike most, I never stopped. I was a full time childcare provider right up until I had my first son.

Being that I had so much experience in childcare, I was sure I’d have motherhood in the bag. Well ladies, guess what? NOPE, not even close. NOTHING can ever truly prepare you for becoming a parent.

Motherhood came as a bit of a surprise to my husband and I. We had been dating for three years, living together for 2.5, and although there wasn’t a proposal yet, we both knew that it would come. In May 2011, I found out I was pregnant. Completely unplanned. I was terrified (mostly because I wasn’t sure how Joe would react). I had ten million things running through my brain, but most importantly how on earth was I going to break this news to him?

I had just convinced him (after years of begging) to buy me a puppy. Sitting in our living room, that afternoon, my emotions (and pregnancy hormones) got the best of me and out of nowhere I started crying hysterically. Somehow in between my hyperventilation and ever so dramatic sobs, I told Joe that he was going to be a father. He was thrilled.

Oh, and that marriage proposal we both knew was coming, it came, completely staged and spur of the moment, but it came. Just weeks after finding out I was pregnant, Joe and I were married! It was a true shotgun wedding. No really, my father even (jokingly) posed for photos holding a shotgun.

Our son Cole was born January 29, 2012, and so it began, “The Curry family baby boom.” Just before Cole’s first birthday in late December 2012, we found out I was pregnant again. September 6, 2013 our son Connor (AKA bubba) was born. We were thrilled to have two boys SO close in age. They would grow up the best of friends.

Apparently 18 months apart just wasn’t close enough in age, because in January 2014 I was pregnant yet again! Say whaaaaaaat? How on earth was I going to survive another pregnancy with a toddler and an infant who was barely four months old! September 22, 2014, our third bundle of joy in three years was born. Cade was born, just 12 months and 16 days after Connor.

The transition from mother of two to mother of three was incredibly difficult for me. On top of the obvious challenges, that three babies under age three bring, I was dealing with postpartum depression and crazy anxiety. I had lost all confidence in myself as an individual, as well as a mother.

Here I am nearly four years later, finally overcoming those postpartum challenges, slowly but surely. I have no doubt lost the majority of my sanity, but I survived. I’m giving it my all, rocking motherhood the best I can. Biggest surprise of all? I’m now a contributor for a moms blog! To say this is way out of my comfort zone is an understatement, but I’ve recently learned that breaking out of your comfort zone is incredibly important and plays a huge role in gaining back self-confidence and learning to find yourself again.

A question I get asked quite often is, “How do you do it?” My response every time is, “I make it up as I go along.” I swear by the saying, “Live and learn,” because honestly (while helpful) no job, parenting book/class, or advice from Great Aunt Edna, is ever going to be enough to prepare you for the real thing. Parenthood is scary, it’s a constant learning experience, you figure out what works best for your family, by nothing more than trial and error, lots and lots of error.

So, ladies climb aboard this guaranteed bumpy journey, with me, one of Westchester County Moms Blog’s newest contributors. I look forward to sharing all my humor, my tips and tricks, my trials and errors , and my parenting truths with you, my fellow fabulous Westchester moms.
