Amy H., Contributor

Amy is a Hudson Valley native and educator working in New York City schools. From a young age, Amy has loved writing. Amy is a breastfeeding, babywearing mama who is always looking for fun things to do with her toddler, especially outdoors. Before moving to her current home in Westchester, Amy attended college on Long Island and then spent most of her 20s in Brooklyn and Queens. New York is truly home for her, and she’s thrilled to be living closer to her hometown of Garrison and her large extended family. As a mom, Amy believes in empowered parenting, and she’s passionate about raising her kid to be a partner in the fight for social justice. Amy lives in Ossining with her husband, son, and pup. When she’s not working or trying to figure out nap time, Amy loves hiking, yoga, swimming, and relaxing with her family.

Erica, Contributor

Erica currently lives in Rye Brook with her husband, two daughters (Ella and Lena) and dog Mabel (their first born). She is a speech pathologist, working part time for the Tarrytown School District. When she’s not at school, she’s running her own speech practice for individuals with communication disorders. In her spare time (yeah right), she loves to read, create materials for other educators to use, and aspires to be in pajamas by 6:00 p.m. every night (don’t judge)!

Kris, Contributor

Kris is the proud mom of two wonderful, smart and sassy daughters (born in 2007 and 2011). Raising her kids as a single mom is a challenge and an adventure and she loves every minute of it. Kris loves bringing up her girls in the same area of Westchester that she grew up in, having only moved a few miles from her childhood home. A long time passion for working with children led Kris to pursue a career in education and she has been an elementary school teacher in the Bronx for over a decade. Her teaching career has taught her that every day is a new experience and to “expect the unexpected.” If she can find any spare time between teaching and motherhood, Kris likes to read, binge watch horrible romantic comedies on TV, bake, and go on road trips with her girls.

With a Bachelor’s Degree from NYU and a Master’s Degree from Stanford University in Literature, May explored editorial life in NYC, but moved towards a teaching career instead, which led to a teaching certification in secondary education and the eventual achievement of a second Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver. As a licensed clinical social worker, May has practiced psychotherapy for nearly seventeen years in multiple settings, from substance abuse clinics in hospitals to community mental health centers, finally finding her passion working with families in a school for severely emotionally disabled children in Westchester County. She is married to a self-proclaimed red neck from Colorado and has three children, who are the beloved centers of chaos in her life. Formerly a ballet dancer and musician for over 20 years, she now does Zumba to keep her joints from locking up and is an avid cheer-soccer-tae kwon do-music-art-dance mom. Her husband regularly begs her to stop volunteering to run more activities, but she never listens to red necks.
