Alexis is a stay at home mom who lives in Yonkers with her husband, two kids, and lots of fur babies. She is originally from the Bronx and new to living in the Yonkers/Westchester area. She enjoys makeup, shopping, and a little quiet time as often as she can fit it into her mom-life schedule. She is often found planning a family outing or trip to the many playgrounds, parks, and far away lands. Alexis feels it’s not really about what you have, but the experiences you can share with your family and the memories you make.

Kris, Contributor

img_2487

Kris is the proud mom of two wonderful, smart and sassy daughters (born in 2007 and 2011). Raising her kids as a single mom is a challenge and an adventure and she loves every minute of it. Kris loves bringing up her girls in the same area of Westchester that she grew up in, having only moved a few miles from her childhood home. A long time passion for working with children led Kris to pursue a career in education and she has been an elementary school teacher in the Bronx for over a decade. Her teaching career has taught her that every day is a new experience and to “expect the unexpected.” If she can find any spare time between teaching and motherhood, Kris likes to read, binge watch horrible romantic comedies on TV, bake, and go on road trips with her girls.

Erica, Contributor

Erica currently lives in Rye Brook with her husband, two daughters (Ella and Lena) and dog Mabel (their first born). She is a speech pathologist, working part time for the Tarrytown School District. When she’s not at school, she’s running her own speech practice for individuals with communication disorders. In her spare time (yeah right), she loves to read, create materials for other educators to use, and aspires to be in pajamas by 6:00 p.m. every night (don’t judge)!

Christina, Contributor

christina
Christina Halpin is a Mama of two rabble rousers, based out of Sleepy Hollow. Raised in Yonkers, Christina received her Masters in Media at The New School and completed her undergrad at Manhattanville College (where she was voted part of the “Loudest DJ” team on WMVL radio two years running.) A fan of discovering local eateries, homecooking and somewhat misguided home improvement projects, she works full-time in Ecommerce for Fullbeauty.com & has previously blogged for LoHud Food. She enjoys oversharing on the internet and listening to way more true crime podcasts than is probably reasonable. Also, with as much black as she wears (and the fact that she is a self-admitted a retired emo kid,) the irony of making her home in Westchester’s Halloween Town is not lost on her. Catch her on Instagram & Twitter @teenstered .

Jen, Contributor

IMG_0439

Jen is three-year resident of Westchester County and a five-year resident of Mommyhood. She enjoys writing, reading, coffee, wine, Disney World, and traveling with her husband, five year old daughter, two year old son, and 13 month old tiny son. She used to teach high school English in the city, but she decided to give up that stress for the stress of being a SAHM. Her least favorite things to do are laundry and dishes, but those seem to be the two things she puts the most energy into, hoping that one day, someone will create a Roomba-like device that will gather, sort, pretreat, wash, dry, fold, and put away the now clean clothes that her children shed like snakeskin around the house. Aside from dishes and laundry, Jen also occupies her free moments traveling and writing for her blog Three Kids and A Car where she provides travel tips and stories she’s collected since she first started bringing her daughter with her while she traveled the world.

May Hwa-Jones was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Queens. She interned at Rolling Stone Magazine and Elle Magazine in college, and was a freelance editorial assistant at Family Life Magazine. With a Bachelor’s Degree from NYU and a Master’s Degree from Stanford University in Literature, May explored editorial life in NYC, but moved towards a teaching career instead, which led to a teaching certification in secondary education and the eventual achievement of a second Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver. As a licensed clinical social worker, May has practiced psychotherapy for nearly seventeen years in multiple settings, from substance abuse clinics in hospitals to community mental health centers, finally finding her passion working with families in a school for severely emotionally disabled children in Westchester County. She is married to a self-proclaimed red neck from Colorado and has three children, who are the beloved centers of chaos in her life. Formerly a ballet dancer and musician for over 20 years, she now does Zumba to keep her joints from locking up and is an avid cheer-soccer-tae kwon do-music-art-dance mom. Her husband regularly begs her to stop volunteering to run more activities, but she never listens to red necks.
