I’m not sure if there is any role on this planet that is simultaneously as rewarding and draining as motherhood. There is no joy like the joy of watching your child erupt in a fit of uncontrollable giggles, and there is no tired like the tired that comes from spending a week consoling a scared toddler when he wakes up from nightmares several times throughout the night. Whether you work out of the home, work from home, or work keeping your home running smoothly, your work is truly never done, and at no time during the year is this more apparent than during the holidays.
I’m a pregnant, work from home mom of two rambunctious toddler boys. Recently, we had one of those days. Preschool was cancelled, it was too cold to go outside, the boys were acting
crazy spirited, the noise level in our house rivaled an AC/DC concert, my emails were piling up, and Mama was running on a grand total of two hours of sleep. I threw on a movie, popped some popcorn, and settled the boys on the couch for what I hoped would be 20 minutes of calmness and quiet. I pulled out my phone and started answering emails. My two year old climbed into my lap, snuggled up, and said, “Mommy, put you phone down.” Right on cue, my three year old said, “Watch this, Mom. It’s funny!”
I’d sat down wanting to accomplish something, but really, there isn’t an email that can’t wait.
From our family to yours, have a happy, healthy holiday.
This holiday season, the Executive and Contributor teams at Westchester County Moms Blog are unplugging to spend some distraction free time with our families. We won’t have any new content on the blog from December 25-January 1, but we will still have some great stories on Facebook for you to enjoy. We’ll be back with great new content for you on January 2nd. We have so much in store for 2017, and can’t thank you enough for being the most important part of our community of moms.
